Perfecting Terrarium Conditions
Emmanuel Van Heygen
Maintaining optimal humidity levels is crucial for the health and vitality of your terrarium. Precisely regulating the humidity levels is essential to ensuring the flourishing of your plants and animals.
Balancing various environmental elements in terrarium management is vital to fostering a healthy and attractive ecosystem. The correct humidity level is fundamental as it influences plant growth and the health of any amphibians and reptiles present. Exotic plants and specific terrarium animals require particular humidity levels to prosper.
Tiny but powerful
The Exo Terra® Monsoon NANO is a programmable misting system suitable for all types of terrariums and greenhouses.
The Monsoon NANO is ideally suited to supply your animals with spray water in a timely manner, and will also positively influence humidity levels through the extremely fine mist generated by the multi-directional brass spray nozzles. The spray’s duration and frequency are effortlessly customizable to cater to the specific requirements of your animals or plants.
• Programmable misting unit for terrariums and greenhouses
• Easy to connect and install
• Strong 2 BAR / 29 PSI / 200 KPA water pressure pump
• Multi-directional brass spray nozzles for ultrafine misting (x2)
• Pressure resistant Polyether tubing
• Can be used with any water reservoir
Frequent misting helps stimulate breeding behaviour, and is a necessity when housing live tropical plants such as Bromeliads, orchids, mosses, etc.
Increases the humidity up to 100% RH
The Exo Terra® Humidifier generates a cool fog through ultrasonic oscillations which simulates low hanging clouds and fog in tropical terrariums or early morning dew in desert terrariums.
This Humidifier with adjustable fog output control is powerful enough to increase the humidity of multiple terrariums up to 100% RH.
• Increases air humidity levels up to 100% RH
• Great visual effect
• Simulates low clouds and fog in the tropical terrariums
• Generates early morning dew in desert terrariums
• Easy to install
• Suitable for use on multiple Terrariums
• Automatically shuts off when water level drops below minimum
• Easy to replenish water even during operation
• LED water-level indicator
• Whisper-quiet operation
• Includes all necessary fittings and a 120cm / 48” durable, flexible hose
• Ideal for use with the Exo Terra® Thermostat & Hygrostat
Includes
• 1 x flexible silicone hose (120cm / 48”)
• 1 x Y-connector
• 11 x PVC-connector
• 5 x PVC-elbow
• 1 x long PVC-elbow (20cm / 8”)
• 3 x short PVC-pipe (9cm / 3.5”)
• 2 x suction cup with holding brackets
Suitable for various terrarium types
Created to be installed outside of the terrarium, its slim design allows it to fit in any Terrarium Cabinet. Equipped with a 120cm / 48” durable, flexible hose and multiple fittings, the Humidifier is suitable for various terrarium types and powerful enough to split the hose to humidify 2 terrariums (or more, by using the optional Humidifier Extension Kit).
The Humidifier has a LED indicator that lights up green when there’s enough water in the reservoir, flashes redgreen when the water-level is low, and red when the reservoir is empty. The Humidifier automatically shuts off when water level drops below minimum and restarts once water is replenished. The removable lid makes it easy to replenish water even while the Humidifier is in operation. With its 4,5 L (1.2 gal) reservoir, the Humidifier runs up to 20 hours per filling on full capacity, while a lower fog output will extend the duration proportionally. The Humidifier is ideal for use with the Exo Terra® Thermostat & Hygrostat (PT2464), so a specific humidity can be set up for the daytime as well as for the nighttime.

Terrarium Topics
Paludariums
The word paludarium originates from the Latin word “palus” which stands for swamp. Paludariums are semi-aquatic terrarium habitats that replicate a rainforest, swamp or stream and can harbor aquatic as well as terrestrial animal and plant species. A paludarium combines the best of two worlds: an extra deep bottom allows you to incorporate a substantial water part or aquarium section adjacent to the land or terrarium section. A fully equipped and functioning paludarium is basically a small, closed ecosystem.
Terrarium Types
Reptiles and amphibians thrive in terrariums that simulate their natural biotope. Mimicking their natural habitat provides numerous benefits: it is essential for their health, well-being, and overall success in captivity. To give you a head start in finding and creating the perfect terrarium, Exo Terra described a range of habitat setups upon which you can base your animal's ideal terrarium setup:
Why use a natural terrarium setup?
Using a terrarium setup that closely mimics the natural biotope of the species you are keeping is crucial for several reasons. A biotope refers to the specific natural habitat or environment in which a particular species is naturally found. When creating a terrarium that resembles the natural biotope, you are essentially replicating the conditions under which the species has evolved and adapted to thrive.
