Hobby Month
January is the ideal moment to reconnect with your hobby and take it to the next level. This month, we created a full scale paludarium using the largest Exo Terra Pro Paludarium, carefully combining space, technology, and natural materials into one cohesive living environment.
The Pro Paludarium Large X Tall (PT4414) is designed for ambitious builds. Its exceptional height opens up endless possibilities for vertical planting, climbing species, waterfalls, and layered landscapes. The front opening doors and integrated ventilation make maintenance easy while keeping the setup visually clean and immersive.
Lighting plays a crucial role in any thriving habitat. The T5 Terrarium Top 39W (PT4257) provides powerful, evenly distributed light across the entire enclosure. Paired with the T5 Reptile UVB100 Pro 39W (PT2382), it delivers the essential UVA and UVB needed for natural behavior, proper calcium metabolism, and overall animal wellbeing, while also supporting healthy plant growth.
Below the surface, a reliable foundation is key. BioDrain Substrate combined with BioDrain Mesh creates an efficient drainage layer that prevents waterlogging and root rot. This system allows excess water to move away from plant roots while maintaining the right moisture balance over time, making it ideal for long term planted paludariums.
On top of this drainage layer, Sub Stratum and Plantation Soil work together to support strong root development and sustained plant health. Sub Stratum provides essential nutrients and promotes beneficial microbial activity, while Plantation Soil offers a stable, natural base that anchors plants and encourages lush growth.
Climate control brings the entire setup to life. The Humidifier (PT2081) does more than simply raise humidity levels. It produces a fine, cool mist that slowly drifts through the enclosure, creating the effect of low hanging clouds moving between plants and hardscape. This gentle fog mimics the natural conditions of tropical forests at dawn and dusk, helping plants absorb moisture through their leaves while encouraging natural behavior in humidity dependent species. The visual effect adds depth and atmosphere, transforming the paludarium into a living landscape that feels calm, fresh, and alive.
To keep this mist evenly distributed, the Terrarium Mini Fan (PT3713) provides subtle air movement throughout the enclosure. This prevents moisture from settling in one area, reduces condensation buildup, and maintains a balanced climate from bottom to top.
For the aquatic section, Turtle Pebbles create a natural looking base that is both functional and safe. Their smooth, rounded texture allows water to flow freely while adding visual depth and a realistic riverbed appearance.
To complete the system, the Monsoon Nano (PT2479) automates misting cycles with precision. Regular fine sprays help maintain humidity, hydrate plants, and simulate natural rainfall, reducing daily maintenance while keeping conditions stable and predictable.
The result is more than just a display. It is a living ecosystem that grows and evolves over time. January is Hobby Month, and this is the perfect moment to build something immersive, balanced, and truly alive.
Stay up on all things exo terra.
